The Sky is Falling
The Sky is Falling

What were you doing last night at 11:32 pm? at 11:36 pm? at 11:59 pm? Me? I was having a total Come Apart. The world as I know it was ending. Period. I need to tell someone.

In order to get to Mommy (my person I chose to tell), I had to jump on Dad who luckily didn't seem to care. I nuzzled and climbed on Mom and panted in her face. She hugged me, but it didn't help much. Licking sometimes does help, so after I licked a couple dots off my arms, I started licking Mommy. She doesn't find that quite as soothing as I do. By now, I'm totally hyperventilating and shaking the bed. The light show continues. The booms get louder. Dad is still asleep. And then the sirens go off.

OK. Now, I AM FREAKED OUT. At this point, some of my furry friends bark insanely, but I don't. For me, barking is limited to Stranger Danger, reserved for HAWK and people who walk by my house. I wimper and cry when I get real real real excited...and those are mainly happy noises. When I'm scared to death...my eyes bug out and I can't say a thing. NaDa. I'm left speechless. Last night, I'm speechless. I tried to bury my head under the covers. I tried to climb on top of Mommy. I flipped on my back, on my belly, back on my back...all the while panting like crazy. And my hair was flying everywhere...in this heat, I shed. ALOT. I think I was on the verge of a doggie nervous breakdown. Thank goodness for the sirens. Mommy decided to get up and investigate. At least now we were doing something!

We didn't need to turn on any lights. Lightning! BOOM!!! BOOM! BOOM! Lightning! It was quite a show. Mommy turned on the television....and guess who was there?! Mr. Weatherman Mark and his weather maps! I like him. The maps were all red. I don't think we're supposed to like that. We watched him for awhile and then we heard Mr. Weatherman Mike talk. We didn't see him so we decided he was probably still wearing his jammies since it's the middle of the night and he didn't want anyone to see. I wonder if his jammies have lightning bolts and tornadoes on them? I hope so. I also wondered if Mr. Mark and Mr. Mike lived at the news station. I decided they must live there to be talking in the middle of the night in front of their maps. While I was wondering about all this stuff...and feeling a tiny bit better....Mommy heard Mr. Mark say a roof was blown off of a house in Murray.

And all of a sudden something started beeping in our house. Mommy went hunting for the beep...but a roof gone in Murray?!? One of my favorite people in the world lives in Murray. Is he getting wet without his roof over him? Did his homework get wet? (He goes to school there.) Mommy said there is more than one roof in Murray. We don't know which roof blew off. Probably not his. But what if it was? At least Mommy got the beeping stopped in our house.

And then I moved on to worrying about HAWK. I don't like him. But, he had to spend the night outside in the middle of all the BOOMS. And I'm sure his tree shook. I hope he wasn't too scared. And what about my squirrels? I don't like them either. But, they were getting wet. I bet they didn't like that.

I finally worried myself back to sleep. How was your night?
